Holy Week to be storm-free
Sun, 28 Mar 2010 13:38:19 -0700
By Helen Flores

MANILA, Philippines - It’s going to be a storm-free Holy Week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said yesterday.

Pagasa weather forecaster Robert Sawi said no tropical cyclone is likely to enter the country this week and there will only be light rains brought by the tailend of a cold front.

Thousands of Filipino families are expected to troop to the provinces for the Holy Week.

Sawi, however, said the cold front will bring rains over the Visayas and Mindanao, becoming widespread rains over Bicol and eastern Visayas.

“The eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered light rains while Northern and Eastern Mindanao will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms,” Sawi said.

He said the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Sawi said Luzon, Visayas and eastern Mindanao will have rough seas until the weekend.

A cold front is the point where cold air from the northern hemisphere and the warm winds of the equator meet.

Tropical cyclone “Agaton” entered the Philippine area of responsibility last week but did not bring significant amount of rain needed by drought-hit areas in the country.

Agaton was the first weather disturbance to enter the country this year.
